A 44-year-old man was killed Tuesday night after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a concrete wall on Interstate 275 near downtown St. Petersburg, troopers said.

Shannon Michael Gardner, 44, of St. Petersburg, died at Bayfront Medical Center after the crash, which occurred about 10:30 p.m. on the Interstate 375 entrance ramp off northbound I-275.

Gardner, who was wearing a helmet, attempted to pass another motorcycle but lost control of the Kawasaki motorcycle while negotiating a curve on the ramp, troopers said.

Gardner's bike collided with the outside barrier wall, and he was ejected onto the road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A highway patrol investigator's report did not identify the other motorcyclist.

No charged were filed, the report said.
