Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni is the latest local elected official to endorse Darden Rice in the St. Petersburg City Council District 4 race.
Rice, a civic activist and member of the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority board, is in a runoff against Carolyn Fries, an entrepreneur and engineer.
“She has been a proven leader on protecting our small businesses and tourism through her advocacy for clean water and coastal protections,” Morroni said in a statement released by the Rice campaign. “Darden understands protecting the environment means protecting the economy and jobs.”
Other notable Rice supporters include former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and U.S. Congresswoman Kathy Castor — like Rice, both Democrats. Morroni is a Republican. Rice has raised $95,000 in campaign contributions, a record for a City Council candidate.
Fries, whose endorsements include former state lawmaker Frank Farkas and former City Council member Connie Kone, has raised almost $14,000.
