A man described as a transient is in critical condition after nearly drowning this afternoon in a pond, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

About 2:30 p.m., police were called to 2200 13th Ave. N. after a person was found floating in a pond at Brooker Creek Park. The victim, identified as Clayton Geiger, 51, was unresponsive when he was pulled from the pond and was taken to an area hospital.

Geiger recently had relapsed into alcohol and “Spice” use, said police, who added there are no indications of foul play at this time.
