Pinellas County deputies said they have arrested a man who exited his SUV and jumped from the Belleair Causeway bridge during a traffic stop late Tuesday.
Robert Tebow, 34, was charged with fleeing and eluding, providing a false name to law enforcement and driving with a license suspended or revoked. The sheriff’s Violent Crimes Task Force located him in South Pasadena. Tebow has no known address.
The search for Tebow involved the sheriff’s office, Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
A deputy stopped Tebow, who was driving a 2005 dark blue Dodge Durango, on the bridge about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for driving at an unlawful speed, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy made contact with Tebow and asked for identification and vehicle information.
As the deputy researched information in his patrol car, Tebow ran from his sport utility vehicle to the railing of the bridge and jumped into the Intracoastal Waterway, the sheriff, office said.
The sheriff’s office said it doesn’t know why Tebow fled the traffic stop.
