Pinellas County deputies are searching for two men who shot two people, killing a man and wounding a woman, in their St. Petersburg home on Wednesday night.
David J. Paonessa, 58, of the 2500 block of 68th Avenue North, was taken to a hospital where he died. Paonessa's wife Jane Bryant is being treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds that deputies described at life-threatening.
The suspects went to the home at just before 7:30 p.m. The man and woman were inside the house along with three other people, the sheriff's office said.
The suspects then shot the man and woman and left the home in a white vehicle that resembled a Lexus, the sheriff's office said.
Neighbor Joe Kern said someone from the house came running to him saying that someone had been shot. He ran over and saw the woman who had been shot at the door. She said the man was in the back room and had also been shot, Kern said.
When Kern entered the room, he grabbed a towel and used it to apply pressure to a wound. He also administered CPR on the man.
"I was keeping him alive until the ambulance arrived," Kern said.
Investigators haven't released the name of the victims.
The victims and suspects knew each other, detectives said.
Detectives believe the shooting might be drug related. The witnesses are being interviewed.
