Kitchen fire damages Bait House in Clearwater

Published:

A Clearwater Beach restaurant was damaged by fire Monday night and the cause of blaze remains under investigation, according to Clearwater Fire & Rescue.

The Bait House restaurant, 51 Causeway Blvd., caught fire just after 10 p.m. The fire started in the kitchen. There were no injuries, the fire department said.

The restaurant closed at 10 p.m. Minutes later a fisherman who was nearby saw smoke coming from the building, the Clearwater fire department said.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the building.

Strong winds moved the fire toward the StarLite Majesty dining yacht, which is a 115-foot yacht next to the Bait House. Firefighters fought the blaze and kept it contained to the restaurant. The yacht wasn’t damaged.

Almost three dozen firefighters fought the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
