CLEARWATER — A prisoner expected to remain behind bars for another 10 years is accused of threatening an ex-girlfriend now living in Kenneth City, saying he would hurt her and rape her daughter if she leaves him before he’s released.
Kahlil Cruder, 32, was transported to the Pinellas County Jail from the Suwanee County Correctional Institute on Wednesday evening on a charge of making written threats to kill or do bodily harm to a person. Even though he is in prison, bail was set at $100,000.
Cruder dated Charmaine Jackson when she was a teenager more than 10 years ago, but they started writing to one another during his most recent stint behind bars, according to court documents. In missives penned between November 2012 and June of this year, he threatened to break her jaw and sodomize her if she left him.
Cruder, who has an extensive criminal record in Pinellas County, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in April for an aggravated battery in Charlotte County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to be released in January 2023.
If found guilty of threatening Jackson, he could face as much as an additional 15 years in prison.
In July, Jackson filed an application for a restraining order against Cruder and received one that will last 20 years.
