Fleeing fatal wreck gets Clearwater man prison term

A Clearwater man was sentenced to a year and a day in prison Thursday, one month after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

Todd Kershaw, 40, of 15 N. Fernwood Ave., was arrested last September in a July 8, 2012, hit-and-run wreck.

Edin Deleon, 24, of 8101 Ridge Road, Seminole, was hit by a dark-colored sedan about 1 a.m. while crossing Park Boulevard, just east of 110th Lane, in Seminole, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Leaving the scene of an accident involving death is a first-degree felony with a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison.

Kershaw’s attorney, Bruce Denson, said it was pretty clear Kershaw didn’t cause the death. Deleon was initially struck by another car and was already dead when Kershaw hit him, Denson said.
