A St. Petersburg woman died Monday night when the car in which she was riding turned in front of traffic and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

According to St. Petersburg police, Christopher Davis, 53, of St. Petersburg, was driving a 1992 Buick northbound on Fourth Street North around 7 p.m., waiting to turn left onto 54th Avenue North.

Police say Davis turned into the path of a southbound 2003 Toyota driven by Teresa Downey, 42, of St. Petersburg.

Downey struck broadside, extricating passenger Cathy McMahon from the vehicle, police say.

McMahon, 42, of St. Petersburg, was transported to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Davis was hospitalized with minor injuries, and Downey was treated at the scene, police say.

An investigation continues.
