Father resuscitates toddler son found in Palm Harbor pool

Published:

A father resuscitated his 11-month-old son today after the child fell in and sank to the bottom of a pool at a Palm Harbor home.

The family said Kaiden Leonardo, 11 months, was in his walker inside the home at 3699 Chatham Drive as his father, Nicholas Leonardo, and his grandfather were watching television, according to Palm Harbor Fire Rescue.

The family said that at some point the dog pushed open a screen door and the child followed it onto the deck, Fire Rescue said. The toddler and the walker then rolled off the deck and fell into the pool.

Nicholas Leonardo, after not hearing from Kaiden, went to check and saw the boy in the walker at the bottom of the pool, Fire Rescue said.

The father jumped in and pulled out Kaiden, who was blue and had no pulse, Fire Rescue said. He began CPR and was able to revive the child.

Fire Rescue did not know how long the child was in the pool.

Emergency personnel responded before noon and Kaiden was responsive and crying when they arrived.

The boy was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the incident appears to be accidental and Child Protective Services plan to visit the house to check on the welfare of the child.
