A man and dog were found dead in a second-floor unit after a fire at Dunedin condominium Monday morning, officials said.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said detectives are investigating the fire at Scottish Towers II, a condo community at 444 N. Paula Drive., Unit 215. Smoke was seen coming from the unit when firefighters were called to the property at 5:39 a.m.

Deputies say Ronald Riley, 54, and a medium-sized dog were found dead in the apartment.

Investigators say the fire appears to have started near the bed in the studio apartment. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but deputies say it is not suspicious in nature.

The investigation continues.
