Dunedin bank opens 50-year time capsule

Published:

DUNEDIN — Employees at the SunTrust Bank on Broadway Boulevard on Thursday cracked open a time capsule that was sealed 50 years ago in a wall of the 100-year-old branch.

The time capsule was sealed up in the wall on Oct. 20, 1963, while the 1913 building was being renovated. Organizations around town, including the City of Dunedin, Masonic lodge, chamber of commerce and local schools, contributed items, including a newspaper, loose coins and a 1948 bank statement from what was then known as the Bank of Dunedin.

The items will be donated to the Dunedin Historical Society and Museum.
