Driver falls asleep, hits house in Clearwater

A 39-year-old driver fell asleep on Wednesday, and ended up driving into a house in Clearwater and injuring the homeowner.

About 4:53 p.m., Robert Louis Albritton of Largo was eastbound on Old Lake Drive after turning off of Magnolia Drive when he fell asleep , left the right shoulder and struck the house at 1837 Oak Lake Drive in Clearwater.

Albritton and the homeowner, Carol Matteo, suffered minor injuries in the crash, FHP said. His 2003 Chevrolet Suburban had $5,000 in damage.

The crash caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the home, which is near the intersection of Old Lake and Regent Avenue, according to the highway patrol.

Albritton was ticketed for careless driving.
