One man is hospitalized this afternoon after a drive-by shooting in St. Petersburg and the gunman’s vehicle was later found abandoned.
About 1:50 p.m., police found a man with a gunshot wound to a leg near 16th Avenue S. and 35th Street. Witnesses told police a man driving past in a red Volvo fired several rounds at the victim.
Minutes later officers spotted the vehicle getting on to Interstate 275 from 22nd Avenue S. and they began a pursuit north on the interstate, police said, but lost the Volvo near Roosevelt Boulevard N.
The unoccupied vehicle was found later in the parking lot of the Bel-Air Apartments 1200 102nd Ave. N., police said.
The victim is at Bayfront Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Detectives said the victim is not cooperative and the identity of the suspect remains unknown.
