An out-of-control dump truck collided with several utility poles Friday morning in a crash that backed up traffic on Roosevelt Boulevard in Clearwater, troopers said.

The driver of the truck, Raul German Llanes, 36, of Tampa, was treated for minor injuries at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, then released.

Llanes, traveling west on Roosevelt, lost control of the unloaded truck near Bay Vista Drive, just west of the Bayside Bridge, at 8:46 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The truck, operated by Aljovin Corp., of Tampa, collided with several utility poles maintained by Duke Energy, Bright House Networks and Verizon, as well as signs owned by area businesses, troopers said.

The highway patrol said Roosevelt was closed in both directions until 10 a.m., when the eastbound lanes reopened. Westbound lanes from County Road 611 to Bay Vista Drive remained while crews repaired the damage, troopers said.

Llanes was cited for careless driving, according to a highway patrol report.
