One St. Petersburg man has died and another remains hospitalized today after the driver lost control on an Interstate 275 off-ramp and crashed into a concrete barrier.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 56-year-old Tommy Xaymongkol was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz westbound, in the left lane, on the I-275 exit ramp to Roosevelt Boulevard and 118th Avenue North around 7:15 a.m. when he lost control on the curve.
Xaymongkol partially drove onto the shoulder then over-corrected, traveling back onto the roadway and crashing into a concrete barrier wall, the FHP said.
Xaymongkol died this afternoon from his injuries at Bayfront Medical Center, while 28-year-old passenger Seth Reid Nicholson is listed in serious condition.
The crash closed the ramp for a couple of hours, the FHP said.
