The suspect in a fatal shooting in St. Petersburg last Friday was found today during a warrant sweep by Clearwater police.
Clearwater officers were checking on people near the Hilltop Motel, 1466 Gulf to Bay Blvd., Clearwater, when they detained Damon Danterius Ford, 20, according to St. Petersburg police.
Ford initially gave them a false name, but officers discovered his real identity and arrested him without incident on a first-degree murder warrant, St. Petersburg police said.
St. Petersburg detectives tried to interview Ford at police headquarters, but he did not cooperate. He has been taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
Ford was wanted in connection with last Friday’s death of Caleb Scott at the BP station, at 2753 5th Ave. S., police said.
In surveillance video, the suspect opens the door to the BP station, but turns to face Scott who was approaching from behind, they exchanged words and then Scott walked into the store, St. Petersburg police said.
Scott turns to face the suspect, they exchange more words, and the suspect pulls out a handgun and shoots Scott multiple times in the chest, police said.
