Clearwater woman found dead in home.

CLEARWATER — Police have arrested a 58-year-old man with first-degree murder in the death of his former roommate.

Paul Alexander Denk is accused of stabbing Amy Lynne Arnold, 54, whose body was discovered in her home at 1117 Turner St. early this morning.

Denk had been living with Arnold temporarily for the last three months after moving from Kansas, but Arnold asked him to leave last week and locked him out, according to Clearwater police.

He returned Tuesday night, but Arnold would not let him in the door, and he slept in the carport that night, a police report says.

Neighbors heard a man yelling “Open the damn door!” and loud pounding about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to Denk’s arrest affidavit. Then neighbors heard Arnold yelling “Don’t touch me! Leave me alone! Don’t touch me!”

At some point, Denk got inside and slit her throat with a knife, which investigators have recovered, the affidavit says.

Roughly a half-hour later, Denk was seen buying beer at the Road Runner Food Store, at 1103 Court St., and the manager asked him about blood on his shoes, the affidavit says. Denk told him he had been in an argument and that he shouldn’t worry about it, according to the report.

Denk returned to the store shortly before 1 a.m., and seemed frantic, the affidavit says. He used the store phone to call 911 and reported finding Arnold’s body.

While talking to investigators, Denk contradicted himself several times. He admitted to arguing with Arnold before his first trip to the convenience store; but when presented with inconsistences in his story, he invoked his right to talk to an attorney, the affidavit says.

Police say Denk has a lengthy prior criminal history in Kansas, including charges of burglary, aggravated assault, drunk driving and domestic battery.

Arnold’s sister was married to Denk’s brother years ago, police say.
