Clearwater man charged after infant injured in domestic dispute

A 40-year-old man is jailed today after he choked his wife while she was holding their 7-week-old son, forcing her to drop the child who then hit his head on the floor.

Thomas Reinke, of 2452 Parkstream Ave., and his wife were involved in a domestic dispute late Tuesday when he started choking her, according to Clearwater police. She dropped the infant who then struck his head on the wooden floor.

The child was being treated for bleeding on the brain, a slight skull fracture and a broken arm at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, police said. His injuries do no appear to be life threatening.

Reinke is charged with aggravated child abuse and domestic battery by strangulation. He is in the Pinellas County Jail.
