A Clearwater man, just released from the hospital, was charged Wednesday with vehicular homicide in a crash caused when he ran a red light last month.

About 5:30 a.m. Dec. 12, Jonathan Bytautas, 29, of 3010 Catherine Drive, Clearwater, was driving a BMW north on McMullen-Booth Road and failed to stop for a red light at Curlew Road, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

His BMW hit a 2005 Chevrolet pickup being driven east on Curlew by Robert Raymer, of Holiday. Both vehicles then hit a westbound Ford pickup driven by George Neil Paajanen, 60, of Palm Harbor, troopers said.

Raymer, 54, died at the scene, troopers said. Bytautas was seriously injured and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Paajanen received minor injuries.

Bytautas was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail with bail set at $250,000.
