A 48-year-old Clearwater bicyclist was hurt when he was struck by a car this afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At 5:05 p.m., Gerald Mullen of Clearwater was southbound on McMullen Booth Road and crossing in the marked crosswalk for Union Street when he was struck by a 2009 Porsche Cayenne driven by Brian Wolstein, 50, of Tampa, FHP said. The Porsche had been eastbound on Union Street and failed to stop for a red light while turning right onto McMullen Booth Road.

Mullen was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries. Charges are pending, FHP said.
