The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect who stole an SUV from a Pinellas Park home this morning that ended up in the water near Johns Pass in Madeira Beach.
Deputies say the yellow 2001 Isuzu Vehicross SUV, stolen from Julia Ann & Keith Alan Robillard for the second time, was found around 4:30 a.m. across from Johns Pass at 12924 Gulf Blvd. in Madeira Beach.
When deputies arrived, they found tire marks in the sand leading to the water, then found the SUV submerged.
The windows and sunroof were open, and a dive team did not find anyone in the SUV as Coast Guard crews flew over the scene, deputies say.
The owners told deputies the vehicle had previously been stolen on Feb. 12, with the keys inside the SUV at the time. It was recovered later that day in the Pinellas Park area, but the keys were never recovered.
When the SUV was recovered, the keys were in the ignition and a cement paver was found on the accelerator when it was pulled from the water, deputies say.
