CLEARWATER — Clearwater Marine Aquarium had planned to be closed through much of the fall as filming for the movie sequel “Dolphin Tale 2” began this week.

But Winter fans may get a few more opportunities to see the movie star dolphin on weekends when she’s not busy acting with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd, including this Saturday and Sunday.

The aquarium will reopen for normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., this weekend but will continue to be closed during the week through the end of shooting in mid-January.

The aquarium will also be open Thanksgiving weekend and during the winter holidays from Dec. 19 to Jan. 5. There may also be intermittent weekend openings that will be announced later, aquarium officials said in a statement.

The Winter’s Dolphin Tale attraction at the Harborview Center in downtown Clearwater will remain open.

“Dolphin Tale 2” is slated for theatrical release next September.
