A 20-year-old man who was burned after being beaten was still alive when he was set on fire, a medical examiner has determined.
On June 10, Aaron Doty was attacked by two men at a party, left outside while he was unconscious, then taken to a secluded area in Sun 'n Lake, where his assailants burned him to destroy evidence, Highlands County officials have said. His body was found the next day in the north end of the Sun 'N Lakes Sebring subdivision.
Autopsy findings released today by the District 10 medical examiner concluded Doty died as a result of multiple injuries, but toxicology analysis indicates that he was alive at the time he was set on fire.
"We spoke to Aaron's family today and without a doubt this is heartbreaking news for the family to receive," said Highlands Sheriff Susan Benton.
The toxicology review also showed there were no narcotics or illegal drugs in his blood, but there was an elevated blood alcohol content level.
Jonathan Ray Rodriquez and Kenneth Edward Felipe, Jr. are currently being held in the Highlands County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body and tampering with physical evidence. Nicole Hebert, Adrianna Rodriguez and Travis Makris also face various charges in connection with this death.
