Two organizations in the Tampa Bay area will help find homes for nearly half of the 700 cats rescued from an animal hoarder in North Florida.

The Humane Society of Pinellas and Cat Depot in Sarasota County will hold separate events to find homes for 280 of the rescued cats.

"We are just honored to be able to do this for them and help give them a second chance at a home," said Sarah Brown, of the Humane Society.

The cats were rescued from the Caboodle Ranch in February after an investigation found some of the animals were sick and neglected.

The Humane Society will hold an adoption event between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 11-12{+ }at a rented storefront at 1928 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd.

"With 130 different cats to choose from, there is a little something fore everyone," Brown said.

The Cat Depot will try to find homes for 150 cats from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 11-12 at Robarts Arena on Fruitville Road in Sarasota. The Cat Depot asks for a $10 donation.
