Pinellas port study dredges up concerns
The Sunshine Skyway’s 182-foot clearance is adequate for most of today’s cruise ships, but the future of the industry looks to be behemoth vessels that couldn’t enter Tampa Bay.
The concept of a dredged, 50-acre seaport in coastal waters prized for unspoiled beauty and sensitive ecosystems raises serious doubts for those concerned about protecting the health of the bay.
