A driver and her passenger suffered only minor injuries this morning after losing control of their vehicle and hitting a school bus in Hudson.
Christine Hughes, 46, of Aripeka, was driving a 2009 Toyota north on Softwinds Lane near Shady Hills Road about 8:30 a.m. as a Pasco County school bus was southbound in the same area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The bus was not carrying any students.
Hughes drove into the southbound lane and the path of the bus, then swerved to the right but hit the left front of the bus. Hughes’ vehicle spun counterclockwise and stopped on the northbound shoulder of Softwinds, troopers said.
Hughes and her passenger, Taylor Gavin, 13, were treated for minor injuries at Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, troopers said. The bus driver, Lisa Butterfield, 47, of Hudson, was not injured.
FHP said the bus suffered $15,000 in damage, and the Toyota had $8,000 damage.
The highway patrol said charges are pending.
