The Sunshine Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Year was the county’s best five-tool player, batting .426 with 43 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, 34 RBIs, two homers and scoring 41 times. Already committed to playing at Florida State, the 6-foot-4 standout also stole 18 bases, all while going 10-2 with a 1.68 ERA and 103 strikeouts on the mound, including a complete-game shutout of Winter Haven in region semifinals that earned the Mustangs their first region berth. Throughout this past season, Johnson also struck out only 11 times at the plate, then only gave up 14 walks on the mound. A great season and even better numbers earned him an invite to play in the Under Armour All-American Game in August, which will be held at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.
