With half of the Sunshine State Conference schedule complete, the Saint Leo men's and women's basketball teams are looking to rebound from recent losses and regain the momentum they picked up in early January.
The men (8-13, 2-6) lost 75-60 at Barry on Wednesday, and 73-60 to Rollins last Saturday. Today's 4 p.m. game against Nova Southeastern is crucial if the Lions have any hopes of finishing in the top half of the SSC standings by season's end. The women play the Sharks at 2 p.m.
Wednesday's loss was the third in a row for the men. The Lions shot only 36 percent from the field, and Jordan Prais was held to 10 points.
After losing to Rollins last weekend as well, the women (11-7, 4-4) nearly came from behind against the Bucs before they lost 59-57. The Bucs led by as many as 16 in the second half, but SLU cut the lead to 2 with less than a minute remaining. The Lions got no closer after a free throw by Brittany Carannante with 2.6 second left. Dominique Daniels had 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting to pace the SLU attack.
Lacrosse players honored
David Erdman and Pat LoGiudice were tabbed by Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook as preseason All-Americans this week.
Erdman, a goalkeeper who averaged 8.28 goals allowed per game last year, was a second-team pick, while LoGiudice was honorable mention at defender.
They were joined by Kyle Marceau, Luke Baruch and Mike Del Buono on the preseason All-Deep South Conference team as well.
