A day-care van overturned in a crash near State Road 56 and Mansfield Road this afternoon and several children and two adults were injured.

At 4:10 p.m., a 2006 Chevrolet van used by Kids-R-Kids day care driven by Crystal Ann Sithong, 39, of Wesley Chapel, was attempting to turn left across eastbound SR-56 onto Mansfield. During the maneuver, however, it entered the path of a 2006 Chrysler CV driven by an unidentified woman. The Chrysler hit the Chevrolet’s passenger side, sending the van onto its left side, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Sithong was taken UCH/Florida Hospital Tampa with minor injuries, and the Chrysler driver was taken St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The Chevrolet was transporting 24 children aged 5-10 years of age. Four children were taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, two were taken to St. Joseph’s Main, and two were taken to Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, according to the FHP.

The accident caused major traffic congestion in the area.
