The Pasco County Sheriff’s office says it has tentatively identified a body found in New Port Richey on Friday afternoon as 56-year-old Anthony Joseph Cucchiara, who has been missing for more than two months.
The identification is deemed tentative while the medical examiner’s office works to confirm the identification and a cause of death, the Sheriff’s Office said. Cucchiara’s family have been notified.
The decayed human remains were found in a wooded area near Massachusetts Avenue between Congress Street and Rowan Road at around 3:15 p.m.
No foul play is suspected, the sheriff’s office said.
Cucchiara was last seen at his home on May 7 before leaving for a scheduled meeting with his probation officer, but he never arrived. He was reported missing and was the subject of an active search, the sheriff’s office said.
Cucchiara had made threats on his life just prior to his disappearance, telling friends and family he would end his life if he ever violated his probation because he did not want to return to jail, the sheriff’s office said.
The case remains under investigation.
