Police: New Port Richey man broke toddler’s arm

Published:

New Port Richey police arrested a Pasco County man accused of breaking the arm of a 15-month old child.

Joseph Alec Kazmar, 34, whose last known address was in Holiday, is charged with aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm.

The child’s mother said Kazmar brought the boy to her home at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday suffering from an injured right arm and bruising to the back of his head, under his arm and to his back, the arrest report said.

The boy was taken to Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, where it was discovered he had a broken arm.

Kazmar told the child’s mother and police the boy was sleeping in a playpen, but managed to climb out, causing the injury to his arm and bruising.

Doctors notified police the arm injury was a spiral facture and could not have been caused by a fall. Also, the bruising under his arm and to his back was the result of being grabbed, police said.

Kazmar was arrested and remains in the Land O’ Lakes Jail with a $10,000 bond.
