A Zephyrhills woman was arrested and charged with child abuse after she allegedly beat a 16-year-old girl over a cell phone dispute Sunday afternoon.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, the victim went to the 39428 Lincoln Ave. home of Helen Emily Martinez-Torres, 36, about 3:22 p.m. Sunday to retrieve her cell phone. The teen told deputies Martinez-Torres had her cell phone and she went to get it back.

The victim and a witness told deputies Martinez-Torres punched the girl several times while inside the house and the witness had to pull Martinez-Torres from the girl.

Martinez-Torres told deputies she took the teen's phone and the girl pulled her hair, provoking Martinez-Torres to punch her.

The arrest report also said Martinez-Torres sent a series of four text messages to the girl, taunting her. One of the messages read: "See you soon toots, I'm a (sic) beat you till the cops come knocking that's a promise."

Another read: "(Expletive) I'm not scared to go in for the holidays trust me, I will be out in 30 days… it will be worth it."

Martinez-Torres remains in the Land O' Lakes Jail with a $5,000 bond.
