Two men have been charged in the stabbing death of another man found in a car along Interstate 75 in Pasco County.
An off-duty Pasco sheriff’s deputy was southbound in I-75 about 6:50 p.m. Saturday near State Road 54 when he saw a suspicious vehicle on the shoulder of the northbound side, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy investigated and found Leon A. Mascorro, 20, of 29806 SW Liberty Wilderness, Bristol, dead of multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen in the front passenger seat, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy detained Justin P. Gonzalez, 22, of Crossville, Tenn., and Jesse M. Blair, 23, of 2322 Ridgeview Drive, Lakeland.
Blair told deputies said he and Gonzalez planned to kill Mascorro because was a snitch, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gonzalez told deputies that he was driving the car, then handed a knife to Blair who stabbed Mascorro from the back seat. Blair said Gonzalez also stabbed Mascorro, according to the sheriff’s office.
The two were questioned and arrested on first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges. Both are being held in the Land ‘O Lakes jail. Bail has not been set.
All lanes of I-75 reopened around 1:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.
