Pasco schools to get new leaders

LAND O’ LAKES — With their current leaders soon to retire, Veterans Elementary in Wesley Chapel and Gulf Middle in New Port Richey are about to get new principals.

The school board is scheduled to vote on the changes at its next meeting April 1, promoting Gretchen Ruldolph-Fladd from assistant principal to principal at Veterans, and transferring Jason Joens, the principal at River Ridge Middle, to Gulf Middle, school district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.

Rudolph-Fladd will succeed Donna Busby, who has served as the Veterans Elementary principal since the school opened in 2008. Cobbe said she is unsure when that appointment will take effect.

The district wants to move Joens to his new job quickly, though, so he can be involved as the academically struggling Gulf Middle makes preparations for a school-improvement plan that will be in place for the 2014-15 academic year, Cobbe said.

Joens, who has been River Ridge Middle’s principal since March 2003, will succeed Stan Trapp, who became principal at Gulf Middle in January 2003.

The district now must advertise for a new River Ridge Middle principal.
