Pasco Education receives grant
The Pasco Education Foundation received a $15,000 grant from Wells Fargo on Dec. 19 to support the Pasco Education Foundation. Wells Fargo has contributed more than $70,000 over the past eight years. With the money, the foundation has been able to provide classroom grants to teachers, scholarships to students, recognition events for students and employees, and financial assistance to students in need.
Fivay High teacher wins award
Pasco County teacher Eric Johnson of Fivay High School has been selected as a state winner of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's National History Teacher of the Year Award. Teachers of the Year receive a certificate of recognition, a $1,000 award, a collection of classroom resources to be presented in their name to the school library, and an invitation to participate in a Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar. Gilder Lehrman Institute seeks to improve history education through programs for teachers and students.
Culinary school hosts fundraiser
Academy of Culinary Arts at Land O' Lakes High School, in partnership with the American Culinary Federation Tampa Bay Chefs Association, hosted a fundraising reception and Black Tie Gala on Dec. 20. Students worked alongside guest chefs from the ACF Tampa Bay Chefs Association, Chef and Child Foundation of Tampa Bay and the American Academy of Chefs to plan and prepare the five-course menu for the event. Dining room manager for the event, Francie Baran, trained and worked with the students to prepare them for the fine dining table service.
Realtors group holds banquet
The East Pasco Association of Realtors celebrated their Annual Installation and Awards Banquet on Dec. 13 at the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club. Property appraiser Mike Wells was present and installed the following officers and directors for 2013: Jessica Floyd, president; Sue Pearson, president elect; Greg De La Rue, past president; Linda White, secretary/treasurer; Chris Shaheen, director; Roxann Tanner, director; Corin Hall, director; Deanna Pelfrey, director and Patty Hurlburt, director. The association also recognized the affiliate of the year, Rhonda Johnson, and the Realtor of the Year, Jessica Floyd. EPAR donated a check for $1,500 to Habitat for Humanity of East Pasco.
