Pasco authorities arrested a Holiday man Tuesday and charged him with child abuse after a toddler suffered third-degree burns on his hand.
Frank Anthony Boccia, 19, 4108 Scarlet Maple Drive, is charged with aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm.
The child’s grandmother told New Port Richey police officers she left just before 6 p.m. Tuesday to pick up another grandchild and left her 2-year-old grandson in the care of Boccia, according to the arrest report.
The child, whose relationship with Boccia was not released, was in a crib inside an upstairs room when she left.
When the grandmother returned home, she found the toddler’s hand was burned. Doctors at Tampa General Hospital categorized the injury as a “submersion burn” caused by placing the child’s hand in hot liquid.
Boccia told police the child remained in the crib the entire time and could not explain how he was burned, the report said. There was nothing inside the room that could have burned the child, according to police.
Boccia remains in the Land O’ Lakes Jail with a $10,000 bond.
