A Wesley Chapel man was arrested Monday night after chasing down a tow truck driver who was repossessing his car, and ramming the back of the tow truck several times, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
About 9:30 p.m. the vehicle, which belonged to John Paul Wofford, 33, 1819 Leybourne Loop, was being legally repossessed by the tow truck driver in front of Wofford’s home.
As the tow truck pulled away, Wofford got into another car and followed, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
Once on Meadow Pointe Boulevard, Wofford caught up to the tow truck and rammed the back of the car being towed, deputies said.
During the episode, the tow truck driver called the sheriff’s office to report a road rage incident.
Wofford attempted to run the tow truck off the road, according to the arrest report, and struck the vehicle being towed a second time.
The chase continued on Country Point Boulevard where the tow truck driver pulled over near the intersection of Country Point Boulevard and English Turn Way, the report said.
Wofford attempted to corner the truck and struck it, deputies said.
Authorities arrested Wofford at that intersection a short time later and charged him with aggravated assault. He was released Tuesday after posting a $5,000 bond.
