A Wesley Chapel couple was arrested and charged with two counts of child neglect after one child was found roaming the complex parking lot alone Saturday night, according to authorities.
A Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to a Wesley Chapel apartment complex about 2 a.m. Sunday after a 4-year-old girl was found in the parking lot wearing only underwear, according to the arrest report.
She was originally found by a neighbor about 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
Evan James Ferguson, 26, 6412 Ryerson Circle, told deputies he was asleep when his daughter unlocked the front door and left the home. When asked if any more children were in the home, Ferguson led the deputy to a bedroom where a 1-year-old boy was naked on the floor by his crib covered in his own excrement.
Angela Patrice Walsh, 24, the children’s mother, was interviewed at her job at the Waffle House in San Antonio about 4 a.m. Sunday when she told deputies she was also asleep at the home when her daughter left, the arrest report said.
The house was in disarray, according to the deputy. Several bottles of beer were found in the Ferguson’s bedroom, the deputy said.
Ferguson and Walsh are charged with two counts of child neglect. Ferguson remains in the Land O’ Lakes Jail with a $5,000 bond, while Walsh was released on $2,000 bond Monday afternoon.
The children were taken from the home by members of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
