First Presbyterian Church of Dade City, 37412 Church Ave., will host A Ceremony of Lessons and Carols presented by The Chancel Choir during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. The traditional service of Lessons and Carols is synonymous with Christmas celebrations, telling the story of humanity's fall in the Garden of Eden through the promise of redemption in the messianic prophecies and the birth of Jesus. Traditional scripture readings will be interwoven with carols that include a touch of Handel and Bach. The Chancel Choir will be accompanied by string quartet Musical Reflections, under the direction of Betsy Goode. The public is invited. For information, call the church, (352) 567-2591.

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 37015 Orange Valley Lane, will have a special dedication ceremony for its new carillon bell tower at 2 p.m. Tuesday with dessert to follow. Reservations requested. To reserve a spot, call (352) 567-8424.  

First Christian Church, 6040 Eighth St., invites the public to its 10:05 a.m. Sunday worship. Sunday Morning Growth Sunday school for adults, youths and children is at 9 a.m. Children ages 4 to 9 are dismissed from the 10:05 a.m. service for Children's Church. After morning service, guests are welcome to attend a coffee/cookie fellowship. Various ministry opportunities are available including a women's group, a men's breakfast, Joshua Project, choir, prayer group, Bible studies, evangelism and outreach and more. First United Methodist Church of New Port Richey, 5901 Indiana Ave., will host its first Celebrating Life Service at 4 p.m. Sunday for those who are grieving during the holidays. For information, call (727) 842-7674.

Trinity Lutheran Church will begin construction of its first permanent building with a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday. A special worship service will be at 11 a.m. followed by the groundbreaking at noon. A picnic lunch will follow the ceremony. Located at 3050 Starkey Blvd., the church has been worshiping in rented facilities since 2003 and is eagerly anticipating completion of the first permanent building at this location so it will be better able to provide services to residents. Beth-El Shalom of New Port Richey, 6209 Congress St., invites the public to attend its Chanukah Celebration at 5 p.m. Dec. 8. The celebration will include the lighting of the 10-foot menorah, lessons, songs, dancing, games and the serving of potato latkes. Guests are invited to bring their own menorah and candles and join in the united lighting ceremony. There is no cost to attend. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 20735 Leonard Road, invites the public to attend one of three Sunday worship services at 8, 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. Nursery care provided for kindergarten age and younger at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be two identical ladies only evenings of Christmas music by the Lady Bug Quartet and desserts. First United Methodist Church of Lutz, 960 W. Lutz-Lake Fern Road, will host a Chili Cook-Off and Birthday Party for Jesus at 6 p.m. Sunday. Guests are asked to bring a Crock-Pot full of chili or a salad to share. To enter the chili contest, chili must be at the church by 5:25 p.m. Reservations requested.
