NEW PORT RICHEY — A New Port Richey man was arrested Thursday at his home and accused of possessing child pornography, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Paul Daly, 61, 7627 Cumber Drive, is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

Deputies and members of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement used a search warrant about 7 a.m. to enter Daly’s home. Once inside, authorities found multiple computer hard drives that contained hundreds of images of child pornography, according to the sheriff’s office.

Children in the videos and photos recovered at Daly’s home ranged in age from infant to under 13, deputies said.

“Make no mistake about it, what this individual was into is absolutely sick, disgusting,” Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said. “Even just reading the names of the files that he had on his computer involving kiddie porn just makes your stomach churn.”

Authorities have been investigating Daly for nearly a month, according to Sgt. Zak Arey of the sheriff’s office Cyber Crimes Unit.

He said certain files on the Internet are known to authorities and can allow them to track who uses the material.

The arrest early Thursday morning came as a shock to residents in Daly’s New Port Richey neighborhood.

Laurie Pallesen, 53, who rents a house next door to Daly, saw the commotion around 7 a.m. Thursday. She thought Daly, who lives at the home with his wife, might have had a medical emergency.

“I saw a (computer) tower come out and I knew at that point … being in the medical field long enough to know what happens when they do that stuff,” Pallesen said, as she gripped the handle of her 19-month-old granddaughter’s stroller.

Daly’s wife told authorities she did not know what was taking place. She said she had her own two computers and never used her husband’s.

Her computer was also searched and nothing involving child pornography was found, Arey said.

Chris McCue, 22, lives across the street from Daly’s home. “It’s completely shocking,” said McCue, the father of a 3-year-old son, Ashton. “In a million years I’d have never guessed my neighbor, out of all people, would own some kiddie porn-type stuff.

“I’ve known these people. I talk to them, I mow their grass, I do all types of stuff for them. I would have never guessed that,” he said.

The pornographic material does not appear to involve any local children and Daly does not appear in the material, authorities said.
