New Port Richey lauds work on winning float

Published:

NEW PORT RICHEY — The theme of the 2014 Chasco Fiesta Street Parade was “Proud to be an American.” Officials last week took pride in the city staff members and volunteers who brought home a top prize for the New Port Richey float.

The American bald eagle is spreading his wings from a perch atop the float, Mayor Bob Consalvo said. It took about 18 people only a few days to assemble the float.

The eagle is 20 feet long and 10 feet tall, said Elaine Smith, city parks and recreation director. Workers had to cut and glue 521 feathers and handcraft other items.

City council members praised the workers last week during the presentation of the plaque for Most Outstanding Non-Professional Float.

The parks and recreation department staff who helped on the float were John Fussell, Matt Phillips, Justin Lawrence, Bill Griffin, Steve Golubeft, Skyler Porter, Kristen King, Brian Cook, Donna French, Kim Hasty, Wendy Putonti, Nick Rickus and Charlie Timony.

Volunteers were Joy Phillips, Selma Maran, Michael Dodson and West Pasco Quilters members.
