NEW PORT RICHEY — Monday is the last day to register to vote in the special primary election for Mike Fasano’s vacant House seat.

Fasano resigned from the District 36 seat when he was appointed Pasco County tax collector.

The special primary election will be held Sept. 17. Only voters who live in the district, which includes all of west Pasco County from the coast to Little Road, are eligible to vote.

Monday also is the final day for voters to change their party affiliation if they want to vote in the primary.

Two Republicans, pastor Bill Gunter and attorney Jim Mathieu, have announced plans to seek the nomination.

The Democratic Party is expected to announce a candidate later this week.

Voter registration applications mailed to the supervisor’s office at P.O. Box 300, Dade City FL 33526, should bear a postmark of Aug. 19 or earlier, or be brought directly to one of the three Supervisor of Elections Offices.
