ZEPHYRHILLS — Authorities in Marion County are searching for a missing pilot from Zephyrhills whose airplane disappeared after taking off from the Dunnellon airport on Saturday.
Theodore T. Weiss of 35150 Colony Hills Drive was seen flying out of Dunnellon in his two-seat, experimental-type, single-engine airplane, but he never arrived at the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport, which is the home base for his aircraft, said Mike Handrahan, manager of the Zephyrhills airport.
When he didn’t arrive home over the weekend, friends came to the Zephyrhills airport Monday and found his car still parked there and his airplane missing from its hangar, Handrahan said. They then reported Weiss missing, he said.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported it is searching for Weiss and his airplane in a joint effort with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Air Force.
