LAND O’ LAKES — A 22-year-old Lutz woman faces criminal charges after witnesses said they saw her pass a 3-month-old baby to someone else while she injected herself with drugs inside a car parked at a McDonald’s restaurant at 2420 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Samantha Jo Jackson of 1601 Tailor Road was arrested shortly after midnight Friday morning on charges of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia, an arrest report said. She was taken to the Land O’ Lakes Jail where she was being held on $10,150 bond.

A deputy was called to the restaurant at 11:56 p.m. Thursday after someone reported seeing people in a 2003 Saturn Ion taking drugs while a baby was in the car, the report said.

When the deputy arrived, he walked up to the car and saw Jackson in the back middle seat, holding the 3-month-old girl, the report said. A syringe was sticking out from underneath a baby’s car seat that was next to her, and on the baby seat was a clear wrapper with white powder residue “consistent with drug use,” the report said.

Two witnesses told the deputy they had seen the occupants of the car “shooting up and snorting drugs off the dashboard” while they passed the baby around, the report said. A third witness reported seeing Jackson pass the baby to someone in the car while she got a syringe ready to shoot up, the report said.

Although the witnesses said another person was in the car, Jackson was the only one arrested and the deputy did not mention in the arrest report seeing any other adult in the car when he arrived.
