A 4-year-old Hudson child who died after being struck by a car driven by her mother Wednesday was originally inside the house and not in the car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Just after 4 p.m., Cathy Jo Ivancsits was in the driver’s seat of her 2002 Pontiac Aztek in front of her home, 14906 Flowers Drive, Apt. 1, when she began to back out of the parking spot.
As the car was backing out, Ivancsits’ husband, David Ivancsits, approached the driver side of the Pontiac and had a brief conversation with his wife, trooper said.
During that discussion, the couple’s daughter, Michelle Ivancsits, 4, came outside of the home with her brother Ryan, 6, and approached the passenger side of the vehicle.
Originally, it was believed the girl was inside the car and made her way outside the vehicle during the conversation between her parents.
Cathy Jo Ivancsits, who did not see her daughter, put the car in drive, accelerating forward, striking the child.
Michelle Ivancsits was taken to Bayonet Point Medical Center in critical condition where she later died.
The accident remains under investigation.
