Dozens of animals were found abandoned in a Holiday home, and investigators are trying to find the last people who rented the house, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday night.
About 6:30 p.m., deputies were called to 1011 Hiawatha Place after a neighbor called about a strong smell coming from the house and flies swarming on the windows. Inside, a deputy found numerous animals left unattended and animal feces throughout the home.
Investigators said there may have been 40 or more animals in the home, including dogs, cats, rabbits, a snake and a lizard.
The animals were being removed Wednesday by Pasco County Animal Control.
It was the second case involving abandoned animals that Pasco County deputies had to deal with Wednesday. Earlier, Frances Terry Evans, 52, was charged with 53 counts of animal cruelty after allegedly driving 50 cats and three dogs in a trailer to a Publix in Spring Hill and abandoning them.
