Deputies: Wesley Chapel High student arrested for carrying machete on campus

Published:

A Wesley Chapel High student was arrested after brandishing a machete while on campus Monday afternoon, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.

About 1 p.m., the 16-year-old boy showed the weapon to other students, deputies said. The machete, about 2 feet long with serrated blade, was tucked into his right pant’s leg, according to an arrest report.

“Now you want to mess with me?” he told classmates, according to the report.

The student left campus, which placed the high school and nearby Thomas E. Weightman Middle School and Wesley Chapel Elementary School on a “controlled campus” status.

He was arrested less than three hours later at his Wesley Chapel home and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center at the Land O’ Lakes Jail. He is charged with possession of a weapon on school campus and disruption of a school function.
