A Pasco County man was arrested today after deputies say he stole mail from at least 11 people with the intent to possibly file fraudulent tax returns.

Deputies say Brian Michael Chipman, 30, was arrested today after a detective observed him stopping in front of residences in the Gulf Harbors neighborhood in New Port Richey without his lights on and his license plate removed.

The vehicle, a Budget rental car, contained multiple pieces of mail as well as check books, credit cards, bank statements, social security numbers, and other documents containing personal information.

Detectives have been able to locate mail in the names of at least 11 people with addresses throughout the Tampa Bay area. They say Chipman likely was looking for debit cards and planned to possibly file fraudulent tax returns.

Chipman, of New Port Richey, is charged with 13 counts of possessing stolen credit cards and one count of failing to return a hired vehicle. He is being held at the Pasco County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
