HOLIDAY — A Pasco County chiropractor was being questioned Monday after a man was shot at his Holiday office, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
Jaime Velez, 34, was shot at The West Coast Spine and Injury Center, 1817 U.S. 19 in Holiday, about 11 a.m. Monday, according to deputies.
Dr. Lenny Linardos, 46, who owns the chiropractic office, has only been named a person of interest, according to Pasco Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Melanie Snow.
Just before 11 a.m., Velez entered the chiropractic office and a confrontation took place between Velez and Linardos, according to deputies.
Linardos, Velez and a nurse were the only people inside the office at the time of the shooting, Snow said.
“(Velez) did enter the building and proceeded to go back to the office where the chiropractor worked,” Snow said. “There were some words exchanged and a shooting occurred.”
The nurse did not see the shooting, Snow said.
The sheriff’s office received two 911 calls after the shooting — one from a nearby business and another call from the nurse, who has not been identified.
Velez, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. He is in critical, but stable condition according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office did not describe the relationship between Linardos and Velez.
Robert Anderson, who came to the scene Monday afternoon when word spread about the shooting, described himself as a patient and a friend of Linardos for the past 15 years.
“I’ve never seen him ever get mad,” Anderson said. “I’ve never seen him get upset or mad and I’ve seen people get right up in his face and yelling. He’s been fairly calm with them.”
